Douglas N. Hornsby's Military and Radiology Awards
Douglas Hornsby is a radiologist, military veteran, and business executive. Throughout his career, Douglas N. Hornsby has focused on providing quality, comprehensive radiology services in a number of different settings.
Douglas N. Hornsby earned his medical degree in 1983 and served as president of Helping Hands Nursing from 1979 until 1989. a Home Health Agency for hospice patients with 16 offices across six states. Dr Hornsby retired in 1989 and returned to medicine. Dr. Hornsby completed an Internal Medicine Internship at the University of Tennessee, completing is Residency in Radiology at Mount Sinai where he was chief resident. Subsequently completing Fellowships in Radiology Management/Body Imaging at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School and in Musculoskeletal Imaging at the U of Miami. From 2002 to 2005, he was chairman of the department of radiology at South Shore Hospital. Since 2002, he has been the president of Digital Radiology, Inc., a multi-state radiology practice.
In addition to his medical career, Douglas N. Hornsby served as a Combet Medic in the US Army. Although he was exempted from the draft as a Quaker, he enlisted for the US Army as a conscientious objector and went unarmed in Viet Nam, he earned honors like the Silver and Bronze Stars for Valor, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and the Purple Heart and was evacuated to Hawaii following a second combat wound. He also received recognition for his contributions to radiology. In 2014, the Florida Radiological Society (FRS) awarded him the Gold Medal for a lifetime of achievement in radiology. Since his membership with the society began, he has served in multiple positions, acting as president in 2021 and writing a monthly article for the FRS’ newsletter. Dr. Hornsby is also a delegate for the American College of Radiology and the American Medical Association. The Florida Radiology Society confers the Douglas N. Hornsby. M.D. Leadership in Medicine Award annually since 2004. Dr. Hornsby is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.
